Performance Support Grant Overview & Information

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR NON-PROFIT PRESENTER

1) Sign up for an account with the TX Commission on The Arts

  • GO TO -----> https://www.arts.texas.gov/grants/sign-up/

  • YOU MUST CALL TCA at (512) 463-5535 or (800) 252-9415 and speak to a Program Staff member in order to sign up for your organization’s User I.D. and Password.

  • Fax your IRS letter of determination, along with your name and phone number (including area code) to (512-475-2699). If you cannot find your IRS letter of determination call our offices for assistance.

  • TCA will communicate your grant proposal via e-mail. Be aware that all TCA applicants are required to have a DUNS number. (most non-profits already have this duns number)

2) Gather the required Attachments to be submitted with the application:

3) Complete the Online Application

  • The application link will be provided once your account is set up via the TCA phone call

  • See the example application submitted by the NFP presenter by CLICKING HERE

4) Once awarded, grant recipients must:

  • Contact your state representative and state senator to share news about their grant award and thank them for making these funds available. You may use one letter to each legislator to acknowledge all of your current TCA grants. Send copies of these letters toattach@arts.texas.gov. If appropriate, additional thank-you letters sent to your legislators from the children, audiences, and participants served by your TCA-funded grant are appreciated.

  • Return the grant report form (sent to you with your grant payment) with financial documentation within 30 days of the project ending date. The documentation should provide the check number, payee name, date, and dollar amount of reported expenses. This can be in the form of a check copy or a spreadsheet that lists these items for each payment.

  • As you fill out the report form, please note:

    • All payments to the artist/their management (as determined in your contract with them) are made, at the latest, by a TBD date based on TCA updates.

    • Make sure all payments to artists are trackable (no cash payments) and run through your organization’s bank account.

    • Provide documentation of your payments to the artist/their management to show TCA you followed the terms of your contract. (Total payments should equal the amount in the original contract)

GRANT AMOUNT

  • The grant award is calculated on a sliding scale and artist fees on the roster vary widely but for a $150 fee, TCA can pay 50%. For a $100,000 fee, TCA can pay up to $8,000 or 8%. You will see how this works on the online application form. A majority of the time, the grant award amount is at least 30% of the total artist fee, with a max award of $8000 per event contract. For example, a contracted artist fee of $17,000 would then garner an $8,000 grant award from the TCA.

  • The grant, ticket sales, and all other sponsorships are then used to pay artist fees and facility rentals, and the non-profit presenter keeps the remaining funds.

  • The organization must show that it matched TCA's grant equally with money that ran through its own bank account. This is why the maximum you can ask TCA for is 50%: the other portion is your minimum match.

This is the general overview of the step-by-step process. The grant application itself should only take a couple of hours to complete at the most according to our 2021 presenters who successfully awarded a grant. The best thing about this process is how simple and streamlined it is once you’ve got your TCA account set up. Non-profit presenters we work with receive grants equal to at least 30% of the contracted artist fee. 5 of 6 were first-time applicants, and 2 of the 6 were awarded the max $8,000.
